I find it's best in that battle to just have a party member entirely dedicated to healing. So long as you're near full health, the AI won't turn the switch on (and there's no chance of it getting stuck).

It's quite possible he's glitching out. His AI is based on events and variables, so there's always a chance that you're either healing too late (or too early) and the game has already turned on the switch for his Erasure move.
The switch isn't meant to turn on until a character's HP is at least at 50%, but to avoid the AI bugging out like that, it's probably best to try and remain above at least 75% at all times.

Hmm..they're not rpgs, but if you're looking for a horror game then I recommend the One Night trilogy/quad..rilogy? w/e, lol as they're all like the classic Silent Hill/RE/Alone in The Dark games. Worth checking out~ :)
All three of the games are kind of in constant flux since I update and add new features all the time, but the downloads can be found by clicking on my user name -- you can access them pretty easily from my user profile.
